Kavitha urges EC to remove duplicate votes across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh
Hyderabad: BRS MLC K. Kavitha urged the Election Commission to identify and remove duplicate votes across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. She said every citizen should have only one vote anywhere in the country.
Addressing the media, Kavitha said the SIR exercise had been conducted eight times across the country. She argued that the Election Commission should also verify voter data between states instead of limiting the exercise to individual states.
According to Kavitha, many people who have voter registrations in Hyderabad also hold votes in Andhra Pradesh. She said the Commission must eliminate inter-state duplicate votes to protect the integrity of the electoral rolls.
She also announced that she would submit a complaint to the Central Election Commission seeking a detailed verification of voter data between the two Telugu states.
Kavitha questions voter deletions and duplicate votes
Kavitha claimed that officials deleted nearly 7,000 votes in the Bodhan Assembly constituency within a year. She questioned the Election Commission over the deletions and sought an explanation for the exercise.
She also referred to actor Prakash Raj’s voter registration and alleged that authorities took seven years to remove his name from two electoral rolls. In contrast, she claimed only 800 duplicate votes were deleted in Kodangal constituency.
Further, Kavitha alleged that a verification conducted by her party found around 33,000 duplicate votes in Kodangal. She claimed Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had won the previous Assembly election with a margin of about 32,000 votes and demanded that the Election Commission respond to those findings.
Kavitha also alleged that there were suspicions of votes being shifted from neighbouring Karnataka, along with money. However, she did not present evidence to support the allegation during her interaction with the media.
