Eight-month-old infant found injured in Birkoor, police begin probe

Hyderabad: Police launched an investigation after an eight-month-old girl was found critically injured with multiple blade wounds in bushes at Birkoor mandal headquarters in Kamareddy district.

According to local residents, the child, identified as Varsha, had gone missing before family members and others began searching for her. Shortly afterwards, the girl’s father located her in nearby bushes and brought her back.

The infant had several blade injuries and had lost a significant amount of blood. Family members immediately shifted her to the Banswada Area Hospital. Doctors later referred her to the Government General Hospital in Nizamabad for advanced treatment after her condition turned critical.

Police have started an inquiry to establish how the child sustained the injuries. Investigators are examining all possible angles, including developments linked to the family’s domestic disputes.

According to local accounts, the child’s father, Satish, has two wives who are sisters. The younger wife, Sandhya, reportedly left for her parents’ home about five months ago after a dispute with her husband, while the child remained with him. However, police have not confirmed any suspect or established responsibility for the attack.

Officials are collecting evidence and recording statements from family members and witnesses. They said further action will depend on the findings of the investigation.
