POCSO Act case: Five get life imprisonment in Jagityal
Hyderabad: A Fast Track Special Sessions Court in Jagityal sentenced five men to life imprisonment in a POCSO Act case involving the gang rape of a minor girl. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on each convict and awarded Rs 12 lakh as compensation to the survivor.
According to police, the offence took place in October 2020 within the limits of Metpally Police Station. Then Sub-Inspector Sadakar registered the case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against Lokini Rajesh (22), Darangula Saikumar (21), Mogilipaka Anil (19), Kunchepu Shiva (19) and Kunchepu Venkatesh (22).
The prosecution presented evidence and witness testimony before the Fast Track Special Sessions Court. After examining the material on record, Judge Ratna Padmavathi found all five accused guilty.
POCSO Act case ends with compensation for survivor
The court directed each convict to pay a fine of Rs 20,000 along with the life sentence. It also ordered the payment of Rs 12 lakh as compensation to the survivor.
The verdict was delivered on Wednesday, bringing the trial in the 2020 case to a close. Police said the case had been investigated and prosecuted under the provisions of the POCSO Act.
