Congress alleges BRS fake news campaign targets Naveen Yadav

fake news campaign

Hyderabad: TPCC spokesperson Syed Nizamuddin on Friday accused the Bharat Rashtra Samithi of orchestrating a fake news campaign to defame Congress candidate Naveen Yadav. Nizamuddin alleged the BRS was targeting Yadav to mislead voters in the Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency. Further, he stated this campaign stemmed from the BRS’s inability to accept Yadav’s growing popularity.

Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan, Nizamuddin said the young leader from the Backward Classes had generated tremendous public support. Consequently, he claimed the “craze” for Naveen Yadav had shaken the BRS leadership. This led the BRS to resort to “cheap, unethical tactics” and false propaganda via social media. He alleged BRS leaders and their teams were spreading fabricated content to malign Yadav’s image.

Nizamuddin provided specific examples of the BRS fake news campaign. For instance, he said perpetrators created a fake news clip claiming Naveen Yadav made objectionable remarks against Muslims. “This is completely false, baseless, and malicious,” Nizamuddin asserted. “He has never made such a comment at any time or on any platform.” Moreover, he explained the fake clip was designed to look authentic by using the dateline and layout of a leading Telugu daily to mislead Muslim voters.

He then recalled another recent incident where a fabricated clipping claimed “Hydra will demolish houses in Jubilee Hills.” This fake story also used the dateline of a different Telugu daily, which he attributed to BRS sympathisers. Nizamuddin called the BRS a “habitual offender” in spreading fake news. He said the party was throwing mud at Naveen Yadav to divert attention from its own “ten years of failures” and misgovernance in Jubilee Hills.

The TPCC spokesperson appealed to voters in Jubilee Hills not to believe or share the false propaganda. In addition, he stated the Congress party would lodge a formal complaint with the Cyber Crime Police. The party will seek a thorough investigation and demand strict action against those who conceived, designed, funded, and circulated the fake items. Nizamuddin also urged Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar to take suo motu cognisance and register a case.

Nizamuddin called the BRS fake news campaign a sign of desperation. He said the Congress party stands for clean politics and would continue to expose false propaganda. Finally, he expressed full confidence in Yadav’s prospects, stating his candidature had united the cadre. Nizamuddin concluded that Yadav would win the Jubilee Hills by-election with a record-breaking majority.
