Hyderabad: Leading Muslim organisations on Friday sought greater Muslim representation Telangana Cabinet and urged the Congress leadership to induct another Muslim minister and provide a fair share in nominated positions.

Addressing a press conference at Hussami Manzil in Panje Shah, Maulana Md Hussamuddin Sani Jafar Pasha released a letter addressed to AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.

The representation called for the appointment of at least one more Muslim minister, nomination of a Muslim leader as MLC and adequate representation in Rajya Sabha seats and other nominated posts.

Muslim representation Telangana Cabinet remains key demand

Maulana Jafar Pasha said Muslims account for nearly 14 percent of Telangana’s population.

However, he noted that the 16-member Cabinet currently has only one Muslim minister, Mohammad Azharuddin.

He said the community had supported the Congress with expectations of development and participation in governance.

According to the representation, Muslim representation remained limited despite multiple Cabinet expansions since December 2023.

The letter argued that Muslims deserved greater participation in governance based on the principle of social justice and population-based representation.

Furthermore, it stated that Muslims should not be viewed merely as a vote bank but as equal stakeholders in decision-making processes.

Muslim representation Telangana Cabinet linked to social justice

The representation highlighted the community-wise composition of the Cabinet and compared Muslim representation with that of other social groups.

It argued that Muslims had not received adequate representation in ministerial positions, chairmanships and other posts of authority.

Maulana Jafar Pasha said the demand extended beyond a single Cabinet berth and included a fair share in nominated positions.

Responding to questions, he declined to endorse any specific individual for Cabinet induction.

However, he said the government should include more Muslim leaders in positions of responsibility.

He also argued that political parties must create conditions that help Muslim candidates succeed electorally.

Muslim representation Telangana Cabinet compared with other states

The letter cited examples from Karnataka and Kerala to support its demand.

According to the representation, Karnataka has multiple Muslim ministers and Muslim representation in important constitutional and nominated positions.

It also noted that the Congress-led alliance in Kerala has traditionally ensured broader participation for Muslims in governance.

Meanwhile, Maulana Jafar Pasha urged Muslims in Telangana to remain vigilant during the Special Intensive Revision process.

He advised residents to keep necessary documents ready and cooperate with Booth Level Officers during verification exercises.

He also asked community members to help relatives and neighbours complete documentation requirements in time.
