Police probe after Kamareddy monkeys death in poisoning experiment

Kamareddy monkeys death triggers police investigation

Hyderabad: Police registered a case and launched an investigation into the Kamareddy monkey deaths. At least 10 monkeys died after suspected poisoning in Kamareddy district.

The incident took place near Antampalli village in Bikkanoor mandal. Preliminary findings show that unknown persons transported a large group of monkeys in a vehicle. They later abandoned the animals near a hotel on the village outskirts. Several monkeys consumed a toxic substance and died on the spot.

Local sarpanch Enugu Manjula noticed the dead monkeys and alerted police and forest officials. Following the alert, teams reached the site and secured the area. Veterinary staff rescued several surviving monkeys in critical condition. They shifted them immediately for emergency treatment.

Meanwhile, police examined CCTV footage from nearby locations. The footage showed a vehicle carrying nearly 150 to 200 monkeys entering the area. It also showed the occupants abandoning the animals without releasing them into a safe habitat. Based on this evidence, officers began tracing those responsible.

Rising concern over Kamareddy monkey deaths

Officials said the incident raised serious concern, as similar monkey poisoning cases have surfaced recently. Residents warned that such acts threaten wildlife and endanger villagers and livestock. They said toxic substances left in open areas pose wider public risks.

Forest department officials said they are coordinating closely with the police. They aim to strengthen surveillance and prevent further harm to animals. Meanwhile, residents demanded strict action against the culprits. They also urged the government to introduce preventive measures to stop such incidents from recurring.
