CEIR mobile recovery drive returns 1500 phones to passengers
Hyderabad: Telangana Government Railway Police said the CEIR mobile recovery drive helped trace and return 1,500 stolen or lost mobile phones worth Rs 2 crore to their rightful owners.
Officials stated that special teams formed across railway police districts carried out the recoveries using the Central Equipment Identity Register portal. The drive operated under the guidance of IG Railways and Road Safety K. Ramesh Naidu and supervision of SP SRP Secunderabad G. Sandeep.
Police said they distributed 126 recovered mobile phones worth Rs 20 lakh to railway passengers in the latest phase. The recoveries included devices traced through registered complaints and Mee-seva applications.
CEIR mobile recovery tracks phones across states
Officials said the CEIR mobile recovery system enabled tracking of stolen phones beyond Telangana. Teams located devices in states such as Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
Police said most thefts occurred during train journeys when passengers sat near footboards or windows, or misplaced devices. In some cases, unidentified offenders snatched or stole phones.
Authorities urged passengers to remain alert and safeguard their belongings while travelling. They advised victims to immediately block their phones using IMEI numbers through the CEIR portal and report the loss at the nearest police station.
Police said blocked devices are tracked, recovered and later unblocked before being returned to their rightful owners.
