Kavitha targets KCR, calls Secunderabad district demand ‘laughable’
Hyderabad: BRS leader Kavitha on Tuesday took a sharp dig at party chief K. Chandrashekar Rao, saying his renewed demand to declare Secunderabad as a separate district was laughable in light of the party’s past actions.
Reacting to recent statements from BRS leaders, Kavitha recalled that activists who demanded district status for Secunderabad during the previous regime were arrested and jailed. She alleged that the then government attempted to suppress the movement instead of addressing the demand.
Kavitha specifically referred to the role of K. T. Rama Rao, accusing him of cracking down on those who raised the Secunderabad district issue over the past decade. She said the same party now launching an agitation on the issue exposed political double standards.
She added that people had not forgotten how voices seeking district status were silenced earlier, and that the present mobilisation by BRS leaders appeared opportunistic rather than sincere.
Secunderabad district demand raised after years of suppression
Kavitha said the Secunderabad district demand was consistently raised by local residents for nearly 10 years but was met with police action under the previous government. According to her, the current push by BRS leaders ignored that history.
She argued that genuine public issues should not be used as political tools and said accountability was needed for the arrests and alleged repression carried out during the earlier phase of the movement.
