Protection of sacred sites raised in meeting with Telangana DGP

Hyderabad: Director General of Police Shivadhar Reddy met a delegation of scholars and Sufi leaders on Tuesday, who sought urgent and stringent action against those responsible for vandalising sacred sites in the city earlier this month.

The delegation urged the police to act swiftly in the January 15 attack on Chilla Mehboob Subhani and nearby graves at Purana Pool Darwaza, warning that such incidents threatened Hyderabad’s long-standing communal harmony and peace.

Senior police officials said the concerns were taken seriously, with the delegation stressing that vandalism at religious sites undermined the city’s tradition of coexistence. The scholars also appealed for enhanced security at all places of worship to prevent similar incidents.

The leaders expressed confidence in the state administration and police to maintain law and order. They also assured full cooperation with authorities to promote interfaith dialogue and community outreach to strengthen mutual respect among communities.
