Meri Panchayat app launched for transparent village governance

Meri Panchayat app launched to boost transparency in villages

Hyderabad: The Central government launched the Meri Panchayat app to strengthen transparency and public oversight in the use of development funds at the village level. The launch followed the formation of new gram panchayat administrations.

The app allows voters to track how gram panchayats spend funds allocated under the 15th Finance Commission and the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. Officials said the initiative aims to ensure accountability as newly elected sarpanches and ward members take charge of local development.

Using the Meri Panchayat app, citizens can view details of funds received by their gram panchayats and the works approved under various schemes. These works include drainages, cement roads, street lighting, and other basic infrastructure projects. Earlier, villagers largely depended on limited disclosures or complaints to verify proper fund usage.

Meri Panchayat app enables citizens to flag fund misuse

The app requires officials to upload photographs of development works from the field. Officials said these images help residents confirm whether authorities actually completed the projects shown in official records.

When users notice discrepancies such as incomplete works or suspected fund misuse, they can file complaints directly through the app. The government said this feature will help curb irregularities and promote corruption-free village administration through technology-based monitoring.

Social analysts stressed that public participation remains vital to the app’s success. They urged villagers, including those in the Huzurabad constituency, to actively use the platform, monitor development works, and support transparent governance at the grassroots level.
