Malkajgiri SHE Teams apprehend 176 offenders

Hyderabad: Malkajgiri SHE Teams apprehended 176 offenders for harassing women and girls over a 45-day period. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Women Safety), Malkajgiri, T. Usha Rani, disclosed the details.

Enforcement and decoy operations

Speaking on the drive, Usha Rani said police will not tolerate harassment in any form. She urged victims to report incidents without fear.

Meanwhile, SHE Teams intensified plain-clothes decoy operations. Teams operated at bus stands, railway stations, metro stations, schools, colleges, vegetable markets, and other public places. When teams caught offenders with evidence, they produced them before courts and arranged counselling with parents present.

Complaints and legal action

Under the DCP’s supervision, teams held counselling sessions at the CP Camp Office in LB Nagar. Of the 176 offenders, 134 were adults and 42 were minors. Professional counsellors and family members assisted during the sessions.

Between November 16 and December 31, 2025, teams received 229 complaints. These included 44 cases through phone calls, 78 through social media, and 107 cases of direct harassment.

Based on these complaints, police registered 11 criminal cases. They also booked 71 petty cases. In addition, teams counselled 104 individuals.

Key cases handled

During the period, police acted on several serious complaints. In one case, a married woman reported that a former schoolmate misused her phone number from a Class 10 WhatsApp group. He gained her trust, took photographs, borrowed gold and cash, and later issued threats. SHE Teams apprehended him and arrested him after registering a case.

In another incident, a Homeopathy college student complained about continued harassment by her junior. Despite warnings from her brother, the accused persisted. Police apprehended him and booked a case.

Similarly, a young woman from Andhra Pradesh alleged that a man from a coaching centre promised marriage and later absconded. Police registered a criminal case based on her complaint.

Awareness and prevention drives

Alongside enforcement, Malkajgiri SHE Teams focused on prevention. During the drive, teams conducted 117 awareness programmes. These programmes reached nearly 21,415 people and covered women’s rights, laws, crimes, and safety measures.

Additionally, during metro rail decoy checks, teams caught 12 men travelling in women-only compartments. Metro authorities imposed fines on them immediately.
