ATM cash theft: Driver flees with Rs 17 lakh

Hyderabad: Police launched a manhunt after a cash vehicle driver allegedly escaped with Rs 17 lakh that was meant to be deposited in an SBI ATM in the IS Sadan police station limits on Tuesday.

According to Detective Inspector Sai Prakash Goud, Srinivas, a native of Jagityal in Karimnagar district, had joined Team POS Agency as a driver four months ago. The agency is responsible for depositing SBI bank cash into ATMs. He was currently staying in Balanagar.

Police said Srinivas arrived to deposit cash at an SBI ATM on the Santoshnagar–Rain Bazaar main road at around 12:30 pm. However, while proceeding to the ATM, he allegedly executed a pre-planned theft.

Investigators said Srinivas had allegedly contacted an associate in advance. As per the plan, a man arrived on a motorcycle, snatched the cash bag containing Rs 17 lakh, and fled from the spot. Srinivas also disappeared after the incident, raising suspicion about his involvement in the ATM cash theft.

Police form teams in ATM cash theft probe

Following information provided by Team POS Agency staff, IS Sadan police reached the location and began an investigation. Officers collected CCTV footage from the area and gathered details related to the incident.

Police registered a case and formed special teams to trace Srinivas and identify the motorcycle-borne suspect. Investigators are examining CCTV recordings and other evidence to track their movements.

Sai Prakash Goud said search operations were underway and expressed confidence that the accused would be arrested soon. The ATM cash theft case has created concern in the area due to the large amount of money involved.
