Raidurgam land dispute resolved as SBI agrees to alternative site
Hyderabad: The Raidurgam land dispute moved towards resolution after the State Bank of India (SBI) reportedly agreed to accept an alternative parcel of land offered by the Telangana government and expressed willingness to withdraw its petition from the High Court.
The dispute over the proposed auction of land in Raidurgam had triggered a confrontation between the Telangana government and SBI in recent weeks. However, following multiple rounds of high-level discussions, both sides appeared to have reached a consensus.
Sources said SBI management responded positively to proposals and suggestions put forward by the state government during the negotiations. As part of the understanding, the bank agreed to accept an alternative 2.5-acre site in place of the disputed land.
The development is expected to pave the way for the formal closure of the issue. SBI representatives are scheduled to hold another round of discussions with officials of the Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC) to finalise the arrangement.
Government restores ties after Raidurgam land dispute talks
The Telangana government had earlier adopted a tough stance following the dispute and reportedly issued internal instructions to halt government transactions with SBI.
With the bank now responding positively, the state government has decided to restore normal dealings with SBI. Chief Minister authorities have reportedly approved the continuation of government transactions with the bank.
Accordingly, fixed deposits belonging to government departments, various government grants and SBI’s status as the lead bank are expected to continue without changes. Officials indicated that these arrangements would remain in place as before.
An official announcement on the land settlement and restoration of transactions is expected after the conclusion of the next hearing before the High Court. The agreement is likely to formally end the Raidurgam land dispute that had strained relations between the state government and SBI.
