BRS calendar recalls decade-long minority welfare legacy
Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi on Thursday released its 2026 calendar highlighting the party’s minority welfare initiatives. The party presented the calendar as a record of its decade-long governance.
K. T. Rama Rao unveiled the calendar at Telangana Bhavan. Senior party leader Shaik Abdullah Sohail prepared the compilation.
Notably, the calendar follows both Gregorian and Hijri systems. It also carries quotations from party chief and former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao. Party leaders described it as a detailed account of welfare-led governance.
Welfare schemes and institutions highlighted
The calendar lists several programmes launched during BRS rule for the Muslim community. These include Shaadi Mubarak, KCR Kits, and minority residential schools under TMREIS. In addition, it highlights government-hosted Iftar programmes.
Moreover, the compilation features key infrastructure and cultural initiatives. These include mosques built in the Secretariat complex and the restoration of Anees-ul-Ghurba. It also documents the creation of Urdu Maskan and the Jamia Nizamia auditorium. According to BRS leaders, these steps showed institutional commitment rather than symbolism.
Political representation and criticism of Congress
The calendar also records political representation given to minorities during the BRS regime. It highlights Mahmood Ali’s appointment as the state’s first Muslim Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister. Additionally, it notes the nomination of Muslim MLCs and appointments to minority welfare corporations.
Speaking at the launch, Abdullah Sohail said BRS governance focused on education, dignity, and empowerment. However, he criticised the Congress government for failing to honour minority-related promises.
According to him, the government utilised less than half of the minority welfare budget in two years. He also alleged that initiatives such as the Minority Sub-Plan and subsidised youth loan scheme remained only on paper.
Finally, Dr. Dasoju Sravan and other senior party leaders attended the event.
