SHE Teams Hyderabad act on complaints, secure convictions

Hyderabad: SHE Teams Hyderabad acted on 98 petitions related to harassment and women’s safety during December, police said on January 5, 2026. The action led to convictions, petty cases, and stronger preventive drives across the city.

Action on complaints and legal outcomes

Under the supervision of Dr. Lavanya NJP, the teams received complaints through WhatsApp, direct petitions, and social media. Of the total petitions, officials forwarded 29 cases to police stations. Police registered 14 FIRs, while they continue to examine 15 cases legally.

Meanwhile, SHE Teams intensified field surveillance and decoy operations. Through these efforts, they caught 13 offenders red-handed, including 11 adults and two minors. Police counselled seven offenders in the presence of family members and issued warnings. In addition, teams booked nine petty cases for serious misconduct.

Courts delivered multiple convictions during the period. Three offenders received seven days’ simple imprisonment with fines. One offender received four days’ imprisonment with a fine. Another received two days’ imprisonment. Courts imposed fines alone in three other cases.

Stalking and harassment cases

Several complaints involved stalking, online harassment, and misuse of personal data. In one case, an engineering student reported that a Rapido rider saved her phone number and harassed her with calls and abusive messages. SHE Teams traced the accused and booked a petty case under relevant sections. The X Special Judicial Magistrate, Nampally, later sentenced him to seven days’ simple imprisonment with a fine of ₹250.

In another case, a degree student accused her neighbour, T. Soul Raju (45), of stalking and attempting to force her onto his bike. Police apprehended him quickly. The court sentenced him to seven days’ simple imprisonment with a fine of ₹500.

Cyber harassment and blackmail cases

SHE Teams also took firm action against cyber harassment. In one complaint, a woman alleged that Y. Sai Trinath (28), whom she met on Instagram, blackmailed her using private photos and videos. Police arrested him, and the court sentenced him to seven days’ simple imprisonment with a fine of ₹500.

Similarly, K. Sumanth Sai Kumar (35) faced conviction for sending abusive messages on social media. The court sentenced him to four days’ simple imprisonment with a fine of ₹250.

Awareness and preventive drives

Alongside enforcement, SHE Teams strengthened awareness efforts across the city. During December, teams conducted 188 awareness programmes in schools, colleges, and public places. They also carried out 1,045 observation drives in crowded and sensitive locations. In addition, teams organised 234 audio-visual awareness programmes using vehicles.

Police issued alerts on fake social media profiles, oversharing of personal data, and weak account security. Officials urged women facing harassment or stalking to report incidents without delay.
