Hyderabad Police arrest man for using fake number plate

Fake number plate user arrested in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Traffic Police and Banjara Hills Police arrested a man for allegedly using a fake number plate on his two-wheeler to avoid traffic challans and mislead enforcement agencies.

Police identified the accused as Gaikwad Navanath, 40, a resident of Gokulnagar in Mallepally. Officials said he used registration number AP11AA6077 on his Hero Passion Plus motorcycle even though the number originally belonged to a Honda Shine owned by Vikky Paswan from Rajendranagar.

During enforcement checks, traffic police found that several traffic violation challans generated against the original vehicle owner were actually linked to the accused’s motorcycle. Based on the findings, Banjara Hills Police registered FIR No.434/2026 under Sections 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 192(1) read with 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Hyderabad Police intensify action on fake number plate misuse

Police issued a notice to the accused under Section 35(3) of BNSS and launched further investigation to identify the actual registration number of the motorcycle used in the offence.

Officials said the case was detected through coordinated efforts between Hyderabad Traffic Police and Banjara Hills Police. Authorities also warned that using a fake number plate, identical number plate or tampered registration plate is a serious offence punishable under law.

Hyderabad Traffic Police said advanced surveillance systems, including CCTV cameras and Automatic Number Plate Recognition systems, were helping officers detect vehicles involved in such violations. Police advised citizens to report suspected misuse of vehicle number plates through the official e-challan portal, email or WhatsApp helpline.
