Congress speeds up Hyderabad DCC reconstitution ahead of GHMC polls

Congress accelerates Hyderabad DCC reconstitution

Hyderabad: The Indian National Congress has accelerated the reconstitution of the Hyderabad District Congress Committee (DCC) as part of its preparations for the upcoming Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections. The party is focusing on strengthening grassroots organisation and selecting leaders based on merit.

As part of the process, PCC observers Mohammad Javeed and Subramanyam held consultations with applicants for various organisational posts. Hyderabad DCC president Syed Khalid Saifullah and senior party leaders also participated. The posts include vice-president, general secretary, social media coordinator and spokesperson.

The consultations took place on Tuesday. Assembly in-charges from the five core constituencies under the Hyderabad DCC—Chandrayangutta, Bahadurpura, Yakutpura, Charminar and Malakpet—attended the interactions. Party leaders said they assessed the applicants’ commitment, organisational skills and local connect.

Transparent process replaces nominations

Speaking to the media, Syed Khalid Saifullah said the party would announce the new Hyderabad DCC team soon after completing scrutiny. He said the process marked a clear shift from earlier nomination-based appointments. For the first time, the party adopted a transparent and consultative approach.

“This exercise aims to recognise committed workers and place capable leaders at every level,” Khalid said. He added that the party wanted strong organisers to lead it into the GHMC elections.

The online application process concluded on January 4. Party leaders described the response as overwhelming, especially from Congress workers in the Old City. Khalid attributed the response to growing confidence in the Congress government led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.

He said the district unit had begun preparations for ward-level activities across all 44 divisions under the Hyderabad DCC. He also announced that the party would convene a strategy meeting focused on the GHMC elections soon.

Highlighting government initiatives, Khalid cited welfare schemes such as free bus travel for women, ration card issuance and fine rice distribution. He said over 70 per cent of the Old City population had already benefited from these programmes.

Khalid also pointed to ongoing metro rail works in the Old City. He said the projects had strengthened public trust in governance. He added that the Congress aimed not only for electoral success but also for long-term development, noting that the Old City had suffered neglect for decades.

The party will announce the final list of office bearers after scrutiny. The list will ensure representation for women, youth, SC, ST, BC and minority communities, in line with the recommendations of All India Congress Committee observers.
