Centre to release funds for strengthening local bodies in Telangana: G Kishan Reddy
Hyderabad: The Centre has decided to release funds to strengthen gram panchayats and urban local bodies in Telangana, Union Minister G Kishan Reddy said on Wednesday.
While speaking to the media, Kishan Reddy said the Central government released over ₹11,000 crore to local bodies in Telangana over the past 10 years. According to him, this support highlights the Centre’s continued focus on grassroots development. Moreover, he said the funding reflects the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Earlier, the Centre released ₹5,060 crore between 2015–16 and 2019–20. Subsequently, it approved ₹9,050 crore for the period from 2020–21 to 2025–26. So far, the government has already released ₹6,051 crore from this allocation.
Local body funds to be released in phases after certifications
Meanwhile, Kishan Reddy said the Centre remains committed to timely fund releases for empowering local bodies. In particular, he said this support begins at the village level and extends upwards.
After the completion of local body elections in Telangana, the State must submit utilisation certificates for 2023–24. Once this happens, the Centre will release ₹260 crore as the first instalment for 2024–25.
Furthermore, after receiving the remaining certificates, the Centre will release nearly ₹2,500 crore in phases. Finally, Kishan Reddy reaffirmed that the Centre will continue to strengthen gram panchayats and municipal bodies through sustained financial assistance.
