Akashvani news role strong in digital era: DG

Hyderabad: Akashvani news role remained strong in the digital era, Director General Rajeev Kumar Jain said while stressing the importance of credibility in fast-paced news dissemination.

He was addressing a training programme organised by the Akashvani Hyderabad Regional News Unit on Tuesday at the CGO Towers conference hall in Kavadiguda. The session was held for part-time correspondents, casual news editors, and news readers.

Jain said Akashvani continues to maintain its distinct identity despite rapid technological changes. He noted that apart from traditional radio broadcasts, the platform has also established a presence on social media. He urged journalists to verify information before dissemination, even under pressure for quick updates.

Training highlights Akashvani news role in evolving media

Telangana Media Academy Chairman Srinivas Reddy said technology has transformed the definition of news. He emphasised that as a government organisation, Akashvani must uphold accuracy and integrity at all times.

PIB Hyderabad Additional Director General Shruti Patil warned against fake news spread through informal digital channels. She explained the role of the PIB fact-check unit, which was strengthened during the COVID-19 pandemic. She also advised journalists to focus on grassroots development reporting.

Akashvani Hyderabad Deputy Director General and Cluster Head Harisingh said the organisation stands for credibility and completeness. He urged correspondents to adopt new technologies without compromising trust.

Regional News Unit Head and Deputy Director M.S. Mahesh recalled that the Akashvani news division began on February 7, 1957. He added that an Urdu bulletin was introduced in 1965 to cater to Urdu listeners.

Senior journalists and experts conducted sessions on multiple topics during the programme. R. Dileep Reddy spoke on news gathering and content creation in a changing media landscape. Dr. Kurmanath explained content consumption trends in the social media era. A.K. Sagar analysed newsroom evolution and changing content sources. Bharat from Factly outlined techniques for fact-checking and improving social media handling.

Officials said the training programme provided practical guidance to correspondents navigating changing media conditions while reinforcing Akashvani’s editorial standards.
