Chaderghat POCSO case ends in five-year jail term

Hyderabad: A Hyderabad court convicted a 45-year-old man in the Chaderghat POCSO case and sentenced him to five years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a seven-year-old girl.

The XII Additional Sessions Judge at Nampally, which handles POCSO cases, delivered the judgment in case number 200/2024. The court convicted Mohammed Moin Mohiuddin, a resident of Palton in Malakpet, under Section 354 of the IPC and Sections 7 read with 8 of the POCSO Act. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000.

According to police, the incident took place on June 7, 2024, at around 8 pm when the victim was returning home from Madarsa at Palton 4th Lane. The accused, who was present at MN Kirana shop, allegedly lured the child by offering Rs 10 for chocolates and took her to a building terrace.

Police said the accused attempted to remove his clothes, following which the frightened child screamed and ran home crying. She later informed her mother about the incident, after which a complaint was lodged at Chaderghat Police Station. The case was later forwarded to Bharosa Centre for recording the victim’s statement.

Chaderghat POCSO case monitored by women safety officials

The Bharosa team provided counselling and emotional support to the victim and her family through follow-up sessions and workshops during the investigation and trial process.

Police officials said the conviction was secured due to the coordinated efforts of Inspector D Ravi Raj, Special Additional Public Prosecutor PJ Ramakrishna, Public Prosecutor A Ram Reddy, Bharosa personnel, court duty staff and summons officers involved in the case.

The investigation and trial proceedings were monitored by DCP Women Safety Dr Lavanya NJP, ACP Women Safety Prasanna Lakshmi and Bharosa Inspector P Padma. Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar appreciated the efforts of all officials involved in securing the conviction.
