Sankranti effect: Gang of thieves targets 13 houses in Hyderabad

Sankranti effect: Hyderabad house burglaries in Chengicherla

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Police launched a search operation after a gang of thieves carried out coordinated burglaries in 13 locked houses at Chengicherla early Thursday. The gang targeted the homes while residents had left the city for the Sankranti festival.

The thefts took place between 1.30 am and 3.30 am within the limits of Medipalli Police Station. Local residents said the gang broke into five houses in Kanakadurga Nagar Colony, Phase 4, Road No. 2. They also targeted six houses in Anushakti Nagar Colony. The incidents triggered panic as thieves struck multiple homes in one night.

Police said the thieves arrived in a car and came well prepared. They carried knives and forced open door and cupboard locks. The gang stole gold, silver, and cash from several houses before fleeing the area.

Residents said they had noticed suspicious activity two days earlier. Locals claimed three unknown persons sprayed pesticides on trees inside the colonies. They suspect the burglars surveyed the area in advance.
