No extension for UMEED Waqf portal deadline, clarifies Minority Affairs Ministry

UMEED Waqf portal

Hyderabad: The Ministry of Minority Affairs clarified on Friday that it has not extended the deadline for uploading Waqf properties on the UMEED portal. The clarification came amid confusion among mutawallis and Waqf institutions in several states.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said the six-month deadline under the Waqf Amendment Act had already ended. He explained that the Act does not allow the government to revise the timeline. He also noted that Supreme Court directions prevent any change. According to him, Parliament fixed the schedule after detailed debate, and only the courts can interpret or alter it.

Mutawallis raised concerns about technical issues, incomplete records and limited awareness. Rijiju acknowledged these problems. He said the Ministry wants to give institutions some breathing space. Therefore, it will not impose penalties or take harsh action for the next three months. However, he added that this relief is only a humanitarian step. It cannot be treated as a legal extension.

Waqf Tribunal can allow case-wise deadline relief on UMEED portal

The Ministry advised mutawallis who cannot meet the 11:59:59 PM deadline on December 6, 2025, to approach the Waqf Tribunal. Rijiju said the Tribunal has the authority to study each case and grant specific extensions when justified. He stressed that this is the only lawful route for those who need extra time.

Officials said they are now coordinating with State Waqf Boards to help institutions struggling with digital processes. Many committees reported confusion over document uploads, verification steps and portal errors. The Ministry plans to support boards in resolving such issues so that pending entries can move forward smoothly.

Rijiju also highlighted the government’s broader goal of improving transparency and accountability in Waqf management. He said these reforms can succeed only when institutions follow the law passed by Parliament and reinforced by the Supreme Court. He added that the Ministry will assist genuine cases but must operate strictly within legal limits.
