₹4 crore hawala cash seized from car in Hyderabad’s Shamirpet
Hyderabad: Hyderabad police seized ₹4 crore in hawala cash from a car during a special check in the Shamirpet area, acting on a tip-off about illegal money transfer operations.
The Bowenpally crime police intercepted the vehicle as part of a targeted operation. On searching the car, they found bundles of cash hidden under the seats and inside the tyres. Authorities said the cash was part of a hawala racket linked to a 2024 case involving a suspect who had been on the run.
According to sources, the task force received a specific alert that the absconding individual was arriving from Nizamabad carrying a large sum of unaccounted money. Based on this information, they set up a checkpoint and stopped the vehicle. The police recovered ₹4 crore during the search.
Police question suspects as hawala probe deepens
Police detained the driver and other individuals found in the car. Investigators are now trying to trace the origin, intended recipients, and purpose of the seized cash.
Officials are examining whether the funds were meant for electoral, business, or other illicit uses. The car has been impounded, and further interrogation is underway to uncover the full network behind the hawala operation.
