Authorities said the firing happened two blocks away from the presidential residence. They arrested a suspect soon after the attack. FBI teams identified him as Rahmanullah Lakanwal. They added that he reached the United States in August 2021.

Officials said he applied for refugee status in 2024. They confirmed that his application gained approval this year. Witnesses said the attacker waited near the station for a short time. Then he opened fire at around 2:15 pm. The area saw sudden panic as gunshots rang out.
