Telangana to buy rain-soaked paddy under Rs.25,000 crore drive
Hyderabad: Telangana has announced a record paddy procurement programme worth Rs.25,000 crore to purchase 80 lakh metric tonnes of paddy, including rain-soaked grain, to protect farmers from weather-related losses.
Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy made the announcement at Gaddipalli village in Suryapet district. He said the Congress-led government was committed to safeguarding farmers and ensuring quick payments through an efficient procurement system.
State sets record in paddy procurement
Reddy said Telangana now holds the national record for paddy procurement in a single season. He attributed this achievement to the government’s focus on farmer welfare and systematic reforms in procurement operations.
He added that payments were being credited to farmers’ accounts within 48 hours. District officials and local representatives were monitoring operations closely to maintain transparency.
Infrastructure push and education focus
During his visit, Reddy laid the foundation stone for a two-lane road costing Rs.8.28 crore and announced a Rs.250 crore Young India Integrated Residential School project. The school network will cater to SC, ST, BC, and minority students across all Assembly segments.
The Minister also launched a fish seed distribution programme at Ponugodu Cheruvu to promote aquaculture and create rural employment opportunities. “Our goal is to strengthen local livelihoods and make each village self-reliant,” he said.
The program of supply of fish seed on 100% grant by Telangana government to all the public water bodies suitable for fish culture with the objective of increasing fish production, increasing the income of fishermen and generation of employment.
