Women empowerment gains pace under Congress welfare vision
Hyderabad: Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said on Monday that the Congress government in Telangana is driving women empowerment by linking welfare with entrepreneurship through innovative self-help group (SHG) initiatives.
Addressing a Mahila Congress meeting at Yusufguda, he said Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka have introduced the state’s first integrated roadmap for women’s financial and social independence.

SHGs to anchor economic women empowerment
The Congress government, he explained, has allotted petrol and diesel bunks and solar power generation units to SHGs to strengthen rural and urban women’s collectives. In addition, SHGs have been assigned management of Indiramma Canteens and production of school uniforms, linking welfare programmes to income opportunities.
He said interest-free loans are being extended to women’s groups, with the state government absorbing all interest costs. “Our goal is to ensure every SHG becomes a centre of women empowerment,” he said.
A special insurance plan for SHG members provides ₹10 lakh compensation to families in case of accidental death, along with complete loan repayment.

The government is also constructing SHG activity centres in every district headquarters with a ₹5 crore budget, reinforcing the institutional framework for women entrepreneurs.
Uttam Kumar Reddy added that 40,000 ration cards have been distributed in Jubilee Hills since Congress took office. Free fine rice, subsidised LPG cylinders, and 200 units of free power are part of the broader social welfare effort.
He expressed confidence that the people’s faith in inclusive governance would ensure Congress candidate Naveen Yadav’s victory. “Empowered women are the foundation of Telangana’s progress,” he said.
