Telangana DCA emergency alert over toxic Almont-Kid Syrup

Almont-Kid Syrup flagged toxic in Telangana DCA alert

Hyderabad: The Telangana Drugs Control Administration on Thursday issued an emergency alert. It warned the public against using Almont-Kid Syrup after tests found toxic ethylene glycol in the children’s cough medicine.

Toxic substance detected in syrup

The alert followed information from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (East Zone, Kolkata). Subsequently, state drug control officials tested samples of Almont-Kid Syrup. They examined batch number AL-24002 and confirmed the presence of ethylene glycol.

Officials said ethylene glycol can severely damage the kidneys and nervous system. Moreover, the chemical can prove fatal, especially in children. Therefore, the department ordered an immediate halt to the use of the affected batch and urged the public to stay alert.

Manufacturer details and safety action

The manufacturer, Tridus Remedies, operates out of Bihar. Officials clarified that laboratory analysis of official samples confirmed the contamination as part of routine drug safety checks.

Meanwhile, the department urged parents and caregivers to stop using Almont-Kid Syrup immediately. In addition, officials asked them to report any suspected side effects without delay.

Helpline activated for complaints

To support the public, the department activated a toll-free helpline at 1800-599-6969. Authorities requested citizens to report adverse reactions or suspicious cough syrups promptly. They stressed that child safety remains the top priority.

Finally, officials said the alert comes amid closer scrutiny of cough syrups following earlier contamination cases elsewhere in the country. They added that further regulatory action will depend on the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
