TCA flags conflict of interest in T20 league

TCA complaint to BCCI

Hyderabad: The Telangana Cricket Association (TCA) approached the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) with a complaint against the proposed G Venkata Swamy Memorial Inter-District T20 league, alleging rule violations and conflict of interest.

The association said the BCCI did not approve the tournament. It argued that conducting the league without approval or compliance repeated an illegality flagged earlier.

In its submission, the TCA said the tournament violated BCCI Rule 38 and amounted to a grave conflict of interest. It pointed out that despite the recent arrests of senior Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) officials and ongoing investigations by the CID, ACB and ED, the same group continued to organise the event.

The TCA also alleged that the organisers ignored the Codes of Conduct prescribed by the HCA and the BCCI. It said a small group of HCA officials with vested interests took key decisions related to the league.

Citing wider governance concerns affecting district cricket in Telangana, the TCA urged the BCCI to stop the proposed T20 tournament. It further requested the board to restrain the HCA from conducting inter-district competitions until it fully complied with BCCI directives and courts disposed of pending cases before the High Court and the Supreme Court.
