Miyapur police bust bike theft gang, seize 21 stolen motorcycles

Bike theft gang busted by Miyapur police

Hyderabad: Miyapur police busted a bike theft gang involved in multiple high-end motorcycle thefts across the Cyberabad Commissionerate and Sangareddy district. The police arrested three accused and seized 21 stolen bikes, officials said.

The breakthrough came after a resident reported the theft of a KTM Duke motorcycle from a residential area. Acting swiftly, Miyapur Police Station staff analysed clues and tracked the gang’s movements across several police station limits.

Accordingly, Miyapur police arrested Nalam Durga Srinivas Sai Kiran (23) and Gottapu Leela Sai (21), both natives of Rajamahendravaram in Andhra Pradesh. Meanwhile, Anakapalli district police arrested another accused, Puramsetti Vijay Siva Sai Prasad (25). However, the fourth accused, Geddam Praveen alias Bunny (25), remains absconding.

Investigators said the gang targeted high-end motorcycles parked outside houses, apartments, and shops, mostly during night hours. As a result, police linked theft cases to the gang from KPHB (11 cases), Ameenpur (3), Chandanagar (3), Gachibowli (2), Miyapur (1), and Ramachandrapuram (1).

Bike theft gang altered engine and chassis numbers

Police said the prime accused planned the thefts to make quick money and aimed to start a second-hand spare parts wholesale business in their native place. To evade detection, the gang altered engine and chassis numbers and dismantled several stolen bikes for parts.

During the operation, police seized 21 motorcycles, a toolkit used to remove spare parts, and a letter set used to tamper with engine and chassis numbers.

Officials said the accused shared a criminal background and maintained close ties in Rajamahendravaram. Moreover, preliminary checks showed that the prime accused had earlier faced multiple theft cases.

The Miyapur crime staff detected the case under the supervision of Riti Raj, DCP, Madhapur Zone, with guidance from Uday Reddy and Ch. Y. Srinivas Kumar.

Finally, police urged the public to take precautions to protect two-wheelers. They advised citizens to avoid parking in isolated areas, install CCTV cameras, and report suspicious activity immediately by dialling 100 or contacting the nearest police station.
