BRS slams Revanth over proposed university land sale
Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the Congress government. BRS MLC Dr. Dasoju Sravan accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of pushing an unethical sale of university land.
Speaking at a press conference at Telangana Bhavan, Sravan said the government was behaving like a real estate mafia. He alleged that it was trying to grab thousands of acres in the name of development.
He strongly opposed the proposal to take 50 acres belonging to Maulana Azad National Urdu University. He called the move unacceptable and shameful.
Sravan questioned how a Chief Minister holding the Education portfolio could justify selling university land. He also alleged that officials had issued notices for land linked to the Indian School of Business.
University land sale sparks outrage
Sravan said the government did not need to sell educational land to govern the state. He added that if Revanth Reddy depended on such sales, he should resign.
He further questioned whether the Cabinet had even discussed the decision. According to him, the move endangered students’ futures and directly attacked the education sector.
Sravan also criticised the Congress party’s claims of supporting minorities. He asked why the party stayed silent on issues affecting Urdu language and Urdu students.
Calling on the Muslim community to oppose the move, he demanded immediate withdrawal of the notice issued to the Urdu University.
He said the BRS would stand with the university, as it did during the Kanche–Gachibowli land issue. While the government could sell land elsewhere, he stressed that universities must remain protected.
Finally, Sravan demanded an allocation of at least ₹1,000 crore for the development of the Urdu University. He noted that the institution runs 26 academic departments despite limited land.
