Telangana Market Reforms Review by Farm Panel
Hyderabad: The Telangana Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Commission conducted surprise inspections and informed visits across key agricultural markets to examine gaps in the existing system and advance Telangana Market Reforms.
The inspections began at major markets, including Enumamula Market in Warangal, where irregularities were observed in vegetable, fruit, and flower trading. According to the Commission, farmers are facing unfair conditions in these markets.
Telangana Market Reforms aim to eliminate middlemen and ensure fair farmer prices
The Commission identified the growing dominance of middlemen as a key concern. As a result, farmers are not receiving fair and remunerative prices for their produce. Therefore, the panel stressed the urgent need to protect farmers from intermediary influence and ensure transparent pricing mechanisms.
Subsequently, a large-scale review meeting was convened under the Commission’s leadership. Farmers cultivating vegetables, fruits, and flowers participated alongside farmer unions, market committee chairpersons, secretaries, commission agents, natural farming practitioners, ITDA officials, and media representatives from across the state.
During the meeting, the Commission Chairman M. Kodand Reddy and members received valuable suggestions from stakeholders. These inputs, they said, will form the basis of a comprehensive report to be submitted to the state government shortly.
The Commission also reaffirmed its commitment to building a transparent and farmer-friendly marketing system. It stated that necessary corrective steps would be taken to ensure farmers receive fair value for their produce.
