Hyderabad Traffic Police book over 21,000 cases in wrong-side driving drive
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Traffic Police** conducted a special enforcement drive against wrong-side driving across the city, booking 21,713 cases in the first week of February 2026.
Officials said the drive was carried out from February 2 to February 9 as part of intensified efforts to improve road safety and reduce fatalities caused by traffic violations. police said, had emerged as a frequent and dangerous practice that led to congestion, confusion, and serious accidents.
Traffic police stated that motorists driving against the flow of traffic not only endangered their own lives but also posed a grave risk to law-abiding commuters. Violators were penalised under the relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act during the drive.
Wrong-side driving drive aims to improve road discipline
Along with enforcement, police said they continued to conduct traffic education and awareness programmes to sensitise commuters about road safety and responsible driving. Officials added that social media platforms were also being used to spread awareness on traffic rules.
The Hyderabad Traffic Police urged motorists to strictly avoid wrong-side driving and cooperate with enforcement efforts. Vigilant citizens were requested to report traffic violations through official social media platforms or by contacting the traffic helpline and e-challan helpdesk numbers.
