Amberpet water board negligence disrupts farm access, farmers warn protest

Amberpet water board negligence hits farmers, access blocked

Hyderabad: Farmers and landowners in Amberpet alleged that negligence by officials at a Water Board filtration plant disrupted access to agricultural lands and caused heavy crop losses, prompting warnings of intensified protests.

The affected farmers said officials laid pipelines across their fields last year without consent, which resulted in damage to cultivable land. They stated that a case linked to the pipeline work was already pending before the High Court. However, the problems continued on the ground, affecting both farmers and daily wage workers who depended on the fields for access routes.

Landowners further alleged that officials released large volumes of water into fields along the filtration plant’s compound wall. As a result, waterlogging persisted for months and destroyed standing crops. Flooded plots and obstructed pipelines made movement nearly impossible, cutting off regular commuting paths used by workers to reach nearby areas.

The families said the situation directly hit their incomes, as crop losses mounted and daily wage workers struggled to reach work sites. Several farmers claimed their crops now faced the risk of total loss if the water discharge continued unchecked.

Farmers cite Amberpet water board negligence, demand relief

The farmers demanded the immediate removal of pipelines laid through private fields and the restoration of safe access routes. They also sought compensation for crop damage and income losses caused by prolonged waterlogging.

Warning of escalation, the farmers said they would intensify protests if authorities, including the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board, failed to provide a permanent solution at the earliest.
