Chinese Manja crackdown intensifies in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad City Police intensified action against banned Chinese Manja ahead of Sankranti. Police seized contraband worth ₹1.24 crore, registered 103 cases, and arrested 143 people across the city.

Zero tolerance ahead of Sankranti

Addressing the media, Commissioner of Police V. C. Sajjanar said Sankranti celebrations must not put lives at risk. He stressed that the government has enforced a complete ban on Chinese Manja. According to him, the banned thread poses serious danger to humans, birds, and the environment.

Therefore, he warned that police will show zero tolerance. Anyone who sells, stores, or transports Chinese Manja will face immediate criminal action. Meanwhile, police have deployed special enforcement teams across Hyderabad to intensify checks.

Online surveillance and public appeal

However, Sajjanar noted that some traders are shifting sales to online platforms. As a result, police have begun round-the-clock surveillance of e-commerce sites and social media. He warned that police will take strict legal action against online sellers and buyers.

At the same time, he urged citizens to use only traditional cotton kite strings. He also asked the public to report violations by dialling 100 or contacting WhatsApp 94906 16555.

Zone-wise seizures reveal scale
