Electricity reforms boost farmers as state sanctions 3.44 lakh power connections
Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Tuesday outlined electricity reforms aimed at strengthening farm power supply and public services during Question Hour in the Legislative Council.
Responding to questions on the power department, Bhatti Vikramarka said the state sanctioned 3.44 lakh agricultural power connections over the last three years. He said the People’s Government prioritised comprehensive power reforms while addressing issues left behind by previous administrations.
Between January 2022 and December 2025, officials reviewed all pending applications and released 3,44,462 new farm power connections. To meet load requirements, the government installed 75,686 new transformers during the same period.
The Deputy Chief Minister said the department releases connections strictly based on seniority and without discrimination. He added that officials would sanction transformers to another 9,700 farmers once line works conclude.
Notably, he said the government granted nearly two lakh connections in 2024 and 2025 alone, calling it clear evidence of its commitment to farmer-centric electricity reforms.
Electricity reforms include ambulance-style rapid response
Explaining new service initiatives, Bhatti Vikramarka said the department introduced “electricity ambulances” to reduce outage response time. Consumers can dial the 1912 toll-free number to register complaints, after which teams dispatch a response vehicle to the site.
Each electricity ambulance carries a mobile transformer, a thermal vision camera, safety equipment, one engineer, and two staff members. The teams attend faults on a priority basis, he told the House.
The Deputy Chief Minister also stated that the state faces no shortage of transformers, poles, or wires. Under the Praja Bata programme, officials spend three days a week in the field correcting bent poles and fixing hanging wires.
He assured legislators that the department would resolve any written complaint brought to his notice within 24 hours as part of the ongoing electricity reforms.
