JNTU Gurajada University student dies by suicide in hostel room
Hyderabad: A second-year engineering student of JNTU Gurajada University died by suicide in a university hostel in Vizianagaram district. The incident has triggered concern among students and faculty.
Police identified the student as Uday Venkata Teja, a second-year EEE student. He stayed in the university hostel. According to police, they found him hanging from a ceiling fan in his room.
Fellow students told officials that Teja spent time with friends until late night. Later, hostel inmates alerted authorities after noticing the incident.
Police have not yet confirmed the reason behind the suicide. After receiving a complaint from university officials, officers rushed to the hostel. They examined the body and gathered preliminary details from the hostel warden and students.
JNTU student suicide under investigation
Police informed the family members about the death. They also registered a case to probe the circumstances. Officers said they are examining all possible angles.
The incident has shaken the campus. It has also renewed concerns about student mental health in Andhra Pradesh.
