Hyderabad: In the Sangareddy stabbing case, police arrested a Rapido driver for attacking a woman and robbing her gold necklace in Munipalli mandal of Sangareddy district, police said on Tuesday.

Addressing a press conference, Sangareddy Deputy Superintendent of Police Sattaiah Goud said police identified the accused as Mathari Jagan (37). He is a native of Tatipalli village in Munipalli mandal. He worked as a Rapido driver and lived in a rented house at Isnapur.

According to police, Jagan accumulated debts due to personal expenses. Therefore, he decided to target women living alone to steal gold jewellery. On December 22, around 2 pm, he spotted a 37-year-old woman from Mamidipalli village. She was grazing buffaloes alone in an isolated area.

Police said the accused threatened her with a knife and demanded her gold chain. However, when she resisted, he stabbed her in the neck and stomach. He then fled with the necklace, leaving her seriously injured.

Sangareddy stabbing case cracked within 24 hours

Meanwhile, Sangareddy Rural Police registered a case. With help from the CCS team, officers traced the accused using technical evidence. Consequently, police arrested Jagan within 24 hours and produced him before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody.

During the arrest, police seized a four-tula gold chain and the motorcycle used in the offence. DSP Sattaiah Goud said swift coordination between the Sangareddy Rural Police and the CCS team helped solve the case quickly.

Finally, the DSP felicitated CCS Inspector Sivakumar with a cash reward for his key role. Sangareddy Rural CI Kranthi Kumar, SI Madhusudhan Reddy and CCS SI Srikanth attended the press conference.
