GHMC may be split into three separate corporations

GHMC three corporations

Hyderabad: The Telangana government is planning to divide the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) into three separate municipal corporations. Sources said one will consist of 150 divisions, while the other two will merge areas from municipalities and nearby local bodies.

The current GHMC elected body’s term ends on February 10. The government is reportedly considering holding elections shortly after the term concludes. An official notification for the GHMC elections may be issued any time after that date.

High Court clears path for ward delimitation in GHMC restructuring

Legal hurdles to the ward delimitation process have been cleared. The Telangana High Court dismissed over 80 petitions challenging the proposed division of wards. The court refused to intervene, stating that judicial involvement was not suitable in the matter.

Officials said more than 10,000 objections had been received regarding the expansion and delimitation of GHMC wards. Based on a review of these objections, the government is considering changing the names of about 40 wards and altering the boundaries of 10 others. The final notification on the delimitation is expected to be issued on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, local protests are continuing in some areas over the changes proposed in ward boundaries.
