Extra charges on Sankranti special trains irk passengers

Sankranti special trains

Hyderabad: Passengers have criticised the operation of Sankranti special trains over higher fares during the festive season. The Railways introduced these trains to handle the rush of travellers returning home for Sankranti.

Officials of the South Central Railway Zone have already operated over 100 special trains. These services covered several destinations in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Railway sources said the zone would introduce more special trains in the coming days.

Sankranti special trains crowded, fares questioned

Passengers from Hyderabad, Secunderabad, and other major stations rely heavily on these special trains. However, many travellers said the Railways charged fares much higher than regular train tickets.

Moreover, passengers pointed out that heavy demand and continuous crowding have persisted for nearly a month. As a result, they said the additional charges had increased their financial burden. Many travellers stressed that festival travel should remain affordable.

Now, passengers have demanded that railway authorities withdraw the special fares. They have also urged the Railways to operate all trains with normal ticket prices and address the issue immediately.
