RTC Driver Suicide Reported in Medak District
Hyderabad: An RTC driver died by suicide in Medak district on Thursday, police said. The incident took place within the limits of Haveli Ghanpur police station and drew attention from local residents and transport officials.
Haveli Ghanpur Sub-Inspector Naresh identified the deceased as Erra Venkati (50), a resident of Aurangabad locality under Medak Municipality. Venkati worked as a driver at the Narsapur RTC depot.
Police said Venkati’s wife Chandrakala died two years ago. After her death, he reportedly suffered prolonged mental distress. On Thursday, he ended his life by hanging himself from a tree in his agricultural field near the old leprosy hospital.
Police registered a case after Venkati’s son Lingam filed a complaint. Officials have taken up an investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the incident.
Later, Medak RTC District Manager Surekha and other RTC staff visited the spot and paid floral tributes to Venkati as a mark of respect.
