Vigilance checks at ginning mills to protect farmers
Hyderabad: Vigilance and Enforcement officials intensified checks on ginning mills across Telangana between December 16 and 18. They carried out surprise inspections at cotton purchasing centres and ginning mills to ensure transparency in cotton procurement and protect farmers’ interests.
Director General Shikha Goel said the department conducted the inspections in coordination with the Cotton Corporation of India. Teams from the Legal Metrology and Marketing departments also joined the drive. The joint teams checked weighing methods, quality assessment, and procurement procedures.
Vigilance on ginning mills across key cotton districts
Officials inspected over 65 cotton purchasing centres and ginning mills. The inspections covered Adilabad, Khammam, Nalgonda, Warangal, Vikarabad, Rangareddy, Sangareddy, Nagarkurnool, Narayanpet, and joint Mahabubnagar districts.
During the drive, officers verified weighbridge certificates and moisture-measuring machines. They also checked CCTV installations and mandatory data backup ranging from 15 to 120 days. In addition, teams examined fire safety licences and the use of the Kisan Kapas mobile application.
Officials registered a case after detecting substandard and unsealed weighbridges at Motur in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district and Chintapalli in Nalgonda district. They also imposed fines of Rs 85,000. These penalties related to weighing irregularities in Sangareddy and faulty weighbridge operations in Rangareddy.
Officials collected samples from ginning mills in Warangal and joint Mahabubnagar districts. They sent the samples to laboratories for technical verification. Officers noted that many centres had installed CCTV cameras. However, several centres failed to maintain the required data backup.
