Hyderabad: Congress leader Arham Adil has praised the Telangana hate speech bill and the newly passed Gig Workers Welfare law, describing both as people-centric legislative steps.

He said the Telangana hate speech bill demonstrates the resolve of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to safeguard constitutional values. Furthermore, he pointed out that rising misuse of public platforms to spread division requires immediate legal intervention.

Telangana hate speech bill ensures deterrence and legal clarity

Adil welcomed the decision to refer the bill to a Select Committee. He noted that this would enable wider consultations and strengthen the framework. In addition, he highlighted that the hate speech bill makes hate crimes cognizable and non-bailable.

He said the law defines hate speech clearly and introduces strict penalties for repeat offenders. Consequently, he believes it will discourage divisive actions. He also mentioned provisions for victim compensation and safeguards against prejudicial actions.

On the gig workers legislation, Adil called it a landmark move addressing the realities of the digital economy. He emphasised that the law provides recognition and social security to lakhs of workers.

Key features include a Welfare Board, unique identification for workers, and a welfare fund supported by levies. Moreover, transparency requirements for platforms ensure accountability.

Adil said the government’s engagement with unions and stakeholders reflects participatory governance. He added that such reforms align with the Congress party’s vision of inclusive growth.

He concluded by stating that similar laws should be introduced nationally to protect social harmony and democratic values.
