Shabbir Ali vows to defend 4% Muslim quota and urges Jubilee Hills support
Hyderabad: Telangana Government Adviser and Congress leader Mohammed Ali Shabbir Ali has reiterated that only the Congress party has both the commitment and capacity to protect the 4 per cent Muslim reservation and defend the rights of marginalised communities. Speaking at Janapriya Grounds in Erragadda, he appealed to Jubilee Hills voters to support Congress candidate Naveen Yadav in the November 11 bypoll.
Congress credited for Muslim reservation legacy
Recalling the 2004–05 decision to introduce a 4 per cent quota for educationally and economically backward Muslims, Shabbir Ali said the measure enabled nearly 22 lakh students to study professional courses such as medicine, engineering, MBA, and MCA. “This historic policy lifted thousands of families out of poverty through education,” he said. “Congress alone has the political will to sustain such progressive programmes.”
He added that the policy symbolised Congress’s commitment to social justice and empowerment. He said the party would continue to protect the quota from legal and political attacks.
Naveen Yadav’s win to affirm inclusive governance
Shabbir Ali said a win for Naveen Yadav would validate the Congress government’s welfare and development agenda. “Your vote for Naveen is a vote for justice, equity and progress,” he told the gathering, noting that the bypoll offered citizens a chance to strengthen inclusive governance.
He pointed to ongoing schemes benefiting farmers, students, and low-income families and said public support was essential for expanding them further.
Congress to challenge Waqf Amendment Act
Reiterating the party’s stance, Shabbir Ali said Congress would approach the Supreme Court against the Waqf Amendment Act. “This is a combined legal and political battle to protect minority rights and institutional autonomy,” he said. He called it a fight to preserve the secular character of India’s constitutional framework.
BRS accused of aiding BJP
He criticised the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) for acting as the BJP’s “covert partner”. According to him, the BRS helped the BJP pass at least 14 controversial bills in Parliament. “Voting for BRS thinking it is secular is like helping the BJP,” he said. “The BRS betrayed Telangana by dividing the secular vote.”
He said the Congress would stand firm against attempts to polarise society and urged voters to choose unity and stability.
Congress highlights welfare initiatives
Listing schemes of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s government—fine rice distribution, new ration cards, 200 free electricity units, and free bus travel for women—he said continued support would ensure their expansion. He added that these policies demonstrated the government’s commitment to inclusive growth.
Appeal for secular voting
Concluding his address, Shabbir Ali urged voters to reject divisive forces and vote for Congress. “Each vote is a vote to protect reservation, secure justice, and defend Telangana’s secular spirit,” he said.
