Musi floods submerge MGBS bus station and disrupt traffic in Hyderabad

MGBS bus station

Hyderabad: Flooding in the Musi River submerged the MGBS bus station, halting bus services and throwing the Dasara festival travel into disarray. Continuous heavy rain filled Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar reservoirs, prompting officials to release water downstream, leading to a severe flood.

The Musi overflow inundated areas around Chaderghat and Moosarambagh. At the Moosarambagh bridge, floodwaters rose 10 feet, while the Chaderghat lower bridge was completely submerged.

MGBS bus station flood forces diversions and emergency passenger evacuation

Inside the bus station, hundreds of passengers were stranded as water entered the premises. RTC staff, supported by disaster response teams, used ropes to evacuate travellers to safety. Bus services were diverted, with Nalgonda and Khammam buses terminating at LB Nagar, Mahbubnagar and Kurnool services at Aramghar, and Warangal-bound buses at Uppal.

Meanwhile, Musi flooding caused heavy traffic jams around MGBS and adjoining routes, with long queues of buses and private vehicles stuck for kilometres. GHMC and disaster management authorities sounded high alert, shifting residents from low-lying colonies near the river to safer locations.

Officials urged citizens not to come to the MGBS bus station until further notice.
