Malkajgiri Police recover 1,039 lost and stolen mobile phones worth ₹2.08 crore
Hyderabad: The Malkajgiri Police Commissionerate recovered 1,039 lost and stolen mobile phones worth ₹2.08 crore over the past six months. Police handed over the phones to their owners on Wednesday.
CEIR-driven recovery operation
Police traced the devices using the Central Equipment Identity Registry (CEIR) portal. Commissioner of Police Avinash Mohanty directed the operation.
Accordingly, police formed special teams in the CCS LB Nagar and Malkajgiri divisions. The IT Cell supported the teams during tracing and recovery.
During the drive, teams recovered 739 phones from the LB Nagar division. They recovered another 300 phones from the Malkajgiri division. As a result, recoveries reached 1,039 devices in six months.
With this addition, the commissionerate has recovered 4,733 mobile phones so far this year.
Phones returned to owners
On January 8, police returned the recovered phones to their rightful owners. Officers also interacted with recipients and gathered feedback on the process.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner advised citizens to protect personal data stored on mobile devices.
Supervision and public advisory
Senior officers closely supervised the operation. These included DCP (Crimes) K. Guna Sekhar, Additional DCP (Crimes) CH. Rameshwar, and ACP (Crimes) Karuna Sagar. Inspectors, sub-inspectors, and IT Cell staff formed dedicated recovery teams.
Police also issued a public warning. They said buying or selling stolen phones is a criminal offence. Therefore, officials urged citizens to buy phones only with authorised bills. They also advised users to set strong passwords, enable “find my device,” back up data, and report losses immediately.
