Kotagiri mother murder: Son held for burning elderly woman alive
Hyderabad: Police detained a man in the Kotagiri murder case after he allegedly burned his elderly mother alive in Kotagiri mandal of Nizamabad district on Saturday.
According to police, the accused had developed a drinking habit in recent months and frequently quarrelled with his mother over money. On Saturday, he reportedly returned home in an inebriated condition and demanded cash to buy alcohol.
When she refused, the argument escalated. In a fit of rage, he allegedly threw old clothes on her and set them on fire inside the house.
Drunken quarrel leads to Kotagiri mother murder
Police said the elderly woman suffered severe burn injuries and died on the spot. Despite her screams, the accused did not attempt to rescue her, officials added.
Neighbours noticed the commotion and alerted Kotagiri police. Officers rushed to the scene, secured the house and took custody of the body. They later shifted it for postmortem examination.
The Kotagiri murder shocked residents in the mandal headquarters. Meanwhile, police detained the accused son and began questioning him.
Investigators said they were examining whether he acted solely under the influence of alcohol or if other factors contributed to the crime. Police registered a case and continued further investigation.
