Hyderabad DCC to launch MGNREGA Bachao Sangram Yatra

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad District Congress Committee (DCC) will organise a three-day MGNREGA Bachao Sangram Yatra from January 24 to 26, 2026. Through the yatra, the party aims to oppose what it calls the dilution and renaming of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act. Hyderabad DCC president Syed Khalid Saifullah will lead the programme.

The party will flag off the yatra at 10 am on January 24 from Charminar. It will conclude on January 26 at the Malakpet TV Tower. During the three days, the yatra will pass through three to four municipal divisions daily. It will cover areas in the Charminar, Bahadurpura, Yakutpura, Chandrayangutta, and Malakpet Assembly constituencies.

MGNREGA Bachao Sangram Yatra to reach grassroots

According to Khalid Saifullah, the yatra seeks to take the Congress message directly to the people. He said the programme would highlight resistance to what the party sees as the systematic weakening of the constitutional Right to Work. He blamed the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre for these changes.

Meanwhile, Khalid Saifullah, along with Assembly in-charges Rajesh Kumar, Boya Nagesh, and Mujeebullah Shareef, met TPCC president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud at Gandhi Bhavan. They sought formal approval and invited him to join the yatra. Party leaders expect Mahesh Goud to participate.

Further, Khalid Saifullah said the yatra would actively engage youth and daily-wage workers. He said the party would explain how policy changes affect rural livelihoods. He warned that any weakening of MGNREGA could push large numbers of workers towards cities like Hyderabad, which already face rising unemployment.
