Hastinapuram mother-son deaths under probe after relatives allege murder
Hyderabad: Police have registered a case and started an investigation into the deaths of a woman and her infant son in Hastinapuram after relatives alleged murder.
Officials at Meerpet police station said Sushmita (27) and her 11-month-old son, Yashwanth Nanda Reddy, were found dead at their home in Jayakrishna Enclave Colony. The incident occurred when no other family members were present.
Meerpet Circle Inspector Shankar Nayak said initial findings indicate that Sushmita poisoned her son and later died by suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan. Police found the bodies later the same day and began preliminary procedures.
The incident occurred within the limits of Badangpet and shocked local residents, particularly due to the involvement of an infant.
Relatives dispute suicide theory
Relatives denied the suicide claim and accused Sushmita’s husband, Yashwanth Reddy, of killing both victims. They alleged that he poisoned the child, murdered his wife, and staged the scene as a suicide.
Family members also claimed that Sushmita faced prolonged harassment. They said police delayed sharing details of the deaths. They demanded a fair and thorough investigation and warned that vital evidence could be missed.
After seeing her daughter’s body, Sushmita’s mother Lalita (50) allegedly attempted suicide by consuming unknown substances. Relatives rushed her to a hospital, where doctors are treating her.
Police confirmed that they registered a case and said they will examine all allegations, including claims of harassment and murder.
