Government finalizes reservations for municipalities
Hyderabad: The state government finalized population-based reservations for municipal elections and issued a notification outlining the reservation of wards in municipalities.
Under the new framework, the government announced reservations for wards, chairpersons and mayors across 121 municipalities and 10 municipal corporations. Seats were allotted to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes, women and unreserved categories in line with population figures.
The reservations finalized by the government followed an exercise to ensure proportional representation. Officials said the allocations were prepared after examining demographic data for each local body.
Municipal reservations finalized based on commission report
The reservations finalized were based on the recommendations of a dedicated commission constituted by the government. The commission submitted its report after studying population patterns and social composition in urban local bodies.
According to the notification, the reservation process covered both general ward seats and top posts, including chairpersons and mayors. The government stated that the new reservation structure would apply for the upcoming municipal elections.
