GHMC launches mega e-waste sanitation drive across city
Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) launched a mega e-waste sanitation drive across the city on Thursday. The initiative aims to promote safe electronic waste disposal and prevent environmental damage.
The two-day drive, scheduled for Thursday and Friday, uses special collection vehicles and designated counters across multiple localities. GHMC designed the initiative to make e-waste disposal easy and accessible at the neighbourhood level.
Citizens handed over discarded mobile phones, chargers, computers, cables, and small appliances during the drive. Officials warned that improper e-waste disposal creates serious health and environmental hazards due to toxic components.

As part of the campaign, GHMC deployed dedicated vehicles to visit residential areas. Fixed collection counters also operated at key locations across the city. Authorities will send the collected material to authorised recyclers for scientific processing.
The civic body urged residents to actively participate and avoid mixing electronic waste with household garbage. GHMC officials confirmed that the city will conduct similar drives regularly to promote responsible waste management.
